Funding of Barnsley LMC
LMCs are funded through the collection of levies by NHS England & Improvement (NHSE/I)
The Statutory Levy, based on the number of patients registered at a Practice, funds the work of LMCs on behalf of its GP’s and Practices.
In addition, Practices are asked to contribute a Voluntary Levy. This is used to finance LMCs non statutory functions via The General Practitioners Defence Fund (GPDF), which in turn assists the General Practitioners Committee (GPC) of the British Medical Association.
GPC is the national body responsible for contractual negotiation on behalf of GPs with NHSE/I.
